Short answer: Usually not during normal cooling in moderate humidity. Whynter’s manual says the ARC-14S self-evaporating system exhausts condensation automatically in most environments when humidity is below about 70%.
In more humid conditions, some water can remain in the internal tank. When excess water accumulates, the unit stops and signals that it needs to be drained.
What Happens Above 70% Humidity?
Whynter says the self-evaporating system can still remove most of the moisture, but the remaining condensate may collect in the tank. That means a very humid basement or muggy summer day can require more attention than a dry room.
How Manual Drainage Works
The manual directs the user to turn the unit off, move or position it where the lower drain port can empty safely, remove the drain plug, and reinstall the plug after the water has drained.
Does It Have a Pump?
No. Whynter does not list a condensate pump on the ARC-14S. Do not confuse its self-evaporating behavior with a pumped drain system.
